Bon profit

Five Catalan ONG´S are about to open the first surplus food supermarket in Barcelona. They have been worked on the project for many months now, thank to Food Waste Hackathon, they could celebrate 2 days of intense work to better design their strategy in terms of structure, customer service, logistics and human resources.

Their participation was sponsored by PEMB and embarked in their strategy to promote a long term integrated strategy for sustainable development of the Barcelona city area.

The main objective was guarantee the viability of the project and contribute to reduce the amount of food wasted in the Barcelona urban area.

The idea is to create a supermarket that sells surpluses or products discarded by food companies, at prices between 50 and 70% below those of competitors. The difference with other projects that are nourished by surpluses is that this will be a store like any other, where you can buy whoever you want,

regardless of the resources you have. In addition, the jobs created will be covered by people at risk of exclusion and long-term unemployment.

The driving forces behind the idea (Càritas, Rezero, Nutrition without Borders, Fundació Banc de Recursos and Foundation Formació Treball) are studying cases in other European countries to see what would be most appropriate for Barcelona.

WE are looking forward to seeing De Bon Profit open its doors!
